Dayton takes doubleheader over @NKUNorseSB

DAYTON, Ohio – Northern Kentucky softball fell in its final nonconference games of the season in a doubleheader to Dayton. The Flyers took the first game, 5-1, before completing the doubleheader sweep with a 7-1 victory in the second game. The Norse drop to 13-33 overall, while Dayton improves to 27-21 and claimed all four meetings with NKU this season.
 
 
Game 1: Dayton 5, NKU 1
 
At the Plate
  • Dayton held a 10-4 hitting advantage over NKU.
  • NKU's four hits came solely from freshman rightfielder Kailey Rossiter and junior third baseman Sydney Ferrante.
  • Rossiter went 2-for-4 for her sixth multi-hit game of the season.
  • Ferrante recorded her 13th double and sixth home run of the season, scoring NKU's only run.
 
In the Circle
  • Junior Ashlynn Roberts got the start and pitched 6.0 innings, striking out three batters while walking three. Roberts dips to 4-13 on the year.

  • Ferrante got NKU on the board in the first inning with a two-out home run to center field.

  • Once again, Dayton out-hit the Norse 10-4.
  • Freshman centerfielder Ava Lawson went 2-for-3 with her second career home run. It marked her ninth multi-hit game of the season.
  • Rossiter added a leadoff single, going 1-for-3, while junior catcher Alina Maher went 1-for-2 from the dish.

  • Senior Paige McQueen pitched 6.0 innings for the Norse with one strikeout and two batters walked. She falls to 0-7 on the season.
 
Key Moments
  • Dayton had a strong start after plating four runs in the first inning.
  • The Flyers continued to score with one run in the second and two in the third while holding NKU to just one hit until the fifth.
  • Ava Lawson prevented the shutout with a home run to right field in the fifth inning, and the Norse retired the Flyers in order in the bottom of the frame for the strongest inning of the game.
