MARTIN, Tenn. – Northern Kentucky softball split the first day of the Skyhawk Hampton Inn Classic, shutting out Akron in six innings, 8-0, before a 4-1 setback to host UT-Martin. NKU moves to 11-7 on the season.

- Ashlynn Roberts pitched a complete game shutout, the second of her career. The last time Roberts accomplished the feat was in a 5-0 win over Austin Peay on April 1, 2015. She moves to 4-2 this year.
Scoring Summary
- NKU took a sizeable lead early on, plating five runs in the opening frame. Brummell clubbed a two-RBI single to right center to send Josie Frazier and Sydney Ferrante home, while Whitmer followed it up with a two-RBI double to left center, scoring Brummell and Madi Mulder. Ava Lawson singled down the left line for one more run, with Whitmer giving NKU the 5-0 lead.
- NKU was unable to muster another run until the bottom of the sixth, when Zahrya McFarland laced a single up the middle to send Brummell across the plate.
- McDaniel incurred the run rule with a single up the middle, scoring McFarland and Libecap to give NKU an 8-0 lead over the Zips and end the game after six innings.
Game 2: UT-Martin 4, NKU 1

- NKU was barely edged in hits, 9-8, by the Skyhawks.
- Toree Stalter had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 from the dish.
- Mulder drove in NKU's lone run, with Kailey Rossiter scoring for the Norse.
In the Circle
- Taylor Ginther pitched a complete game, striking out two and walking two. She moves to 5-4 with the loss.
Scoring Summary
- NKU got things going quickly with four hits in the first four at-bats. Rossiter, Josie Frazier, Ferrante and Mulder all clubbed singles, with Mulder driving Rossiter in for NKU's lone run of the contest.
- UT-Martin answered back in the bottom of the frame, equalizing the contest off a two-out RBI single.
- The Skyhawks took the lead in the fourth and added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to maintain the lead through the game's closing.
Norse Notes
- Ferrante extended to a 10-game hitting and reached base streak, the longest on the team.
- McFarland is close behind with seven-straight games with a hit.
- Brummell had her third multi-hit game of the season against Akron, while Stalter had her fourth against UT-Martin.
- Whitmer and McDaniel had their first multi-RBI games of the season against Akron, and Brummell had her second.
