@NKUNorseSB wins third-straight with extra-inning victory over UIW

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Northern Kentucky softball started off the Madeira Beach Invitational well, winning its opening game over Incarnate Word in extra innings. With the win, NKU moves to 3-2 on the season while the Cardinals dropped to 1-5.
  
At the Plate
  • Both teams registered five hits, with two Norse recording multi-hit games.
  • Madi Mulder was 2-for-4 at the plate, including the two game-winning RBI. It was her fourth multi-hit game of the season, and her second multi-RBI showing.
  • Toree Stalter was 2-for-2 and scored one run for the Norse.
  • Kailey Rossiter and Zahrya McFarland also crossed the plate to help the Norse pick up the win.
 
In the Circle
  • Faith Howard started in the circle, pitching 5.0 innings with two strikeouts and one batter walked.
  • Taylor Ginther took over for the last three innings, fanning five batters and walking none while allowing just one hit.
 
Key Moments
  • Incarnate Word struck first in the top of the second, when a leadoff double paved the way for a groundout RBI.
  • The Norse equalized the contest off an error in the fifth, allowing McFarland to score.
  • The Cardinals plated a run in the eighth inning off an error to take the lead, but the Norse answered back with two to take the game.
  • After Ashley Rains was intentionally walked, the bases were loaded for the Norse in the bottom of the frame. Mulder supplied a single through the left side, which allowed Rossiter and Stalter secure the victory.

  • The Norse are back tomorrow against La Salle and Eastern Michigan. First pitch against the Explorers is set for 11 a.m. ET followed by a 1:30 p.m. start against the Eagles.
