@NKUNorseBSB and Wright State split Friday doubleheader

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team and Wright State split a doubleheader on Friday. The Norse won the first game, 12-11, before falling in the second game, 12-5. NKU is now 6-17 on the year and 3-5 in the Horizon League. Wright State is 14-10 overall and 5-3 in the league.

AT THE PLATE
  • Jake Richmond went 2-for-4 with two homers, three runs scored and five RBIs.
  • Andrew Bacon was 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs.
  • Will Haueter went 2-for-4 at the plate with a homer, two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Griffin Doersching was 1-for-5 with a homer, a run scored and three RBIs.
 
ON THE MOUND  
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Norse took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Dominic Mercurio's single allowed Jake Richmond to score.
  • NKU added five runs in the second inning to go ahead 6-0. Bacon had an RBI single in the inning, and Richmond and Haueter each hit home runs.
  • Wright State got a run back on Brandon Giltrow's solo home run in the fourth inning.
  • The Norse responded with five more runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Bacon, Richmond and Doersching each connected on a long ball in the inning to give the Norse an 11-1 lead.
  • The Raiders got two runs back in the sixth inning to make the score 11-3.
  • In the seventh inning, Wright State added six runs thanks in part to Gabe Snyder's grand slam. The Norse led 11-9 at that point.
  • Richmond's fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh pushed the NKU lead to 12-9.
  • Adrian Marquez clubbed an RBI double in the eighth inning to make the score 12-10.
  • Peyton Burdick made things interesting in the ninth inning for WSU courtesy of a solo home run, but the Norse held on for the 12-11 victory.

  • The Norse combined for five home runs in the game.
  • Wright State had 14 hits in the contest, and NKU had 11.
  • NKU committed one error, and Wright State had none.
  • The Raiders left 12 runners on base, and NKU stranded eight.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Wright State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
  • Doersching thumped a three-run homer in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 3-3.
  • The Raiders scored four runs in the third inning to take a 7-3 advantage. Peyton Burdick hit a double, and three runs scored on the play.
  • In the fourth inning, WSU's Alex Alders hit a RBI triple and Chase Slone hit an RBI single to put the Raiders ahead 9-3.
  • The Norse responded in the fifth inning with two runs. Roberts hit a sacrifice fly to allow Andrew Bacon to score, and Haueter hit a RBI groundout so that Richmond could cross the plate.
  • Wright State added three runs in the eighth inning to take the 12-5 victory. Seth Gray's double scored two runs, and Slone hit a RBI single in the inning.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Wright State had 16 hits in the contest, and NKU had nine.
  • The Norse committed three errors in the game, and WSU had none.
  • Wright State stranded 11 runners, and NKU left four runners on base.
