Ginther pitches first complete game shutout over Ramblers

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Northern Kentucky softball recorded its first shutout of the season, claiming a 2-0 win over Loyola Chicago on Wednesday afternoon. The Norse move to 7-4 on the year while the Ramblers fall to 7-8.

At the Plate
  • In a low-hitting affair, NKU held a 5-3 edge over Loyola Chicago at the plate.
  • Toree Stalter had the only multi-hit game for the Norse, going 2-for-3 with one run scored.
  • Josie Frazier, Sydney Ferrante and Taylor Brummell also recorded a hit apiece, with Frazier and Brummell each driving in a run.

In the Circle
  • Taylor Ginther, the reigning Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, pitched the first complete game shutout of her career. She struck out two batters and moved to 5-1 on the season.

Scoring Summary
  • NKU struck first in the top of the opening inning when Ferrante doubled to left field and was driven in by Brummell on a single to left. The double is Ferrante's third of the season and it moves her up to seventh on NKU's all-time career doubles list, with 34.
  • The Norse plated their second run in the fifth inning, starting with a single to left field by Stalter. The Norse shortstop then stole second, and another single to left field, this time by Frazier, allowed Stalter to cross the plate.
  • Loyola Chicago loaded the bases in the bottom of both the sixth and seventh innings, giving the Norse a scare. However, NKU's defense came in clutch to get the final outs and prevent any runs from the Ramblers.
