Oakland outlasts @NKUNorseBSB in offensive battle, 14-12

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Oakland on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 14-12. The Golden Grizzlies move to 10-21 on the year and 7-7 in Horizon League play. NKU is 9-23 overall and 5-10 in the league.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Oakland took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. 
  • The Norse responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to make the score 3-2. With the bases loaded, Roberts walked to bring home Andrew Bacon. Later in the inning, Doersching hit a sacrifice fly to allow Richmond to cross the plate.
  • Doersching hit a RBI single for NKU in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3.
  • Oakland crossed the plate nine times in the fourth inning to go ahead 12-3.
  • NKU battled back in the bottom half of the fourth. Haueter hit a three-run double and Roberts brought him home with a single to cut the Oakland lead to 12-7.
  • The Norse added three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Bacon reached on an error, which allowed Paradis to score. Later in the inning, Richmond hit a two-run single to make the score 12-10.
  • NKU tied the game at 12-12 in the bottom of the sixth. Bacon reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed Heavilin to score in the inning. Bacon later scored on Robert's walk with the bases loaded.
  • Oakland took its 14-12 lead in the top of the eighth. Mike McGee hit an RBI double in the inning, and Emerson Misch added an RBI single.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Oakland had 16 hits in the contest, and NKU had 11.
  • Both teams committed an error.
  • Oakland stranded 10 runners, and the Norse left 14 on base.
