Green Bay claims 6-3 win over @NKUNorseSB

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky softball dropped the series opener to Green Bay on Friday afternoon, falling 6-3 to the Phoenix. The Norse move to 17-19 overall and 4-10 in Horizon League action, while Green Bay advances to 9-26 (6-5 HL).

At the Plate
  • Green Bay held a 10-7 advantage in hits.
  • Ava Lawson was the only Norse to have a multi-hit outing, going 2-for-2 with one run scored and one driven in.
  • Madi Mulder and Zahrya McFarland added an RBI apiece, each going 1-for-3 from the dish.

In the Circle
  • Taylor Ginther dropped to 7-10 with the loss after tossing the first 1.1 innings.
  • Ashlynn Roberts surrendered just one run in her 4.2 innings of relief work. She fanned seven batters and walked none.

Scoring Summary
  • Green Bay drew first blood in the bottom of the opening frame off an RBI single, but the Norse quickly knotted the score at 1-1 in the second.
  • Taylor Brummell led off the second with a single through the left side and was advanced off a sac bunt by Lawson. McFarland doubled to center field to send Brummell home.
  • The Phoenix plated four more runs to secure the lead, thanks in large part to a three-run homer.
  • In the fourth, Lawson launched a double that barely stayed inside the park after bouncing off the top of the left field barrier. She was driven in by Mulder's single to shortstop before the Phoenix added an insurance run in the bottom of the frame.
  • NKU added one more run in the sixth, with Lawson singling through the right side to send Kailey Rossiter home.

Up Next
  • The series against Green Bay concludes tomorrow, April 21, with a noon doubleheader. As a reminder to fans, Green Bay is the designated home team for the series after field conditions in Wisconsin prompted the relocation to Highland Heights.
