@NKUNorseSB opens up series with the Titans with 5-2 victory

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.  – Northern Kentucky softball guaranteed its first regular season at .500 or better since moving to Division I when the team took down Detroit Mercy in the series opener, 5-2. The Norse move to 22-20 with two games remaining in the regular season, and 9-11 in Horizon League play, while the Titans drop to 14-28 (8-11 HL).
                           
 
At the Plate
  • The Norse held a slight advantage in hits, 7-6, with seven different Norse clubbing a hit in the outing.
  • Madi Mulder drove in three runs for NKU, while Ava Lawson also added an RBI and scored a run of her own.
 
In the Circle
  • Ashlynn Roberts pitched 6.0 innings and picked up her 10th win of the season, moving to 10-7 overall. She struck out six batters and walked two.
  • Taylor Ginther tossed the final frame, not allowing any hits. She recorded her second save of the season.
 
Scoring Summary
  • The Norse went up 1-0 in the bottom of the second when Zahrya McFarland doubled to center field, and advanced home off a throwing error in the following play.
  • Detroit Mercy's Savvy Ferstle blasted a two-run homer in the third to give the Titans a 2-1 edge, but those would be the only runs scored for UDM.
  • NKU answered back with three runs in the bottom of the frame off the bat of Mulder, who clubbed a two-out, bases-loaded single to right field to drive in Taylor Brummell, Kailey Rossiter and Lawson.
  • Lawson added her RBI in the fourth with a deep double to left field to send Josie Frazier across the plate.
