@NKUNorseMSOC fall to Detroit Mercy, 2-0, on the road

DETROIT – The Northern Kentucky men's soccer team had its three-game winning streak snapped on the road Saturday night, falling to Detroit Mercy, 2-0.

"As we've seen all season, we are lacking consistency especially in the final third," said head coach Stu Riddle. "We are getting plenty of opportunities to score but failing to take them when it matters. We have a good group and a good team and there are plenty of points left to play for in League play."

BETWEEN THE POSTS

  • Baj Maan made five saves, faced 10 shots and allowed both of Detroit Mercy's goals

MATCH SUMMARY

  • NKU kicked off the game with an offensive assault in the first five minutes that saw three shots on target and two corner kicks. Connor Probert fielded both corners and had two of the on-target shots.
  •  The Norse continued to find chances on goal throughout the first half. Probert had shots on goal with 28, 26 and 18 minutes left, while Alex Greive had a shot reach the keeper with 27 minutes remaining.
  • The Titans found their first goal of the night when a Mohamad Miri pass reached Ryan Pierson, who slipped a shot by Maan.
  • NKU's scoring woes continued into the second half. Despite several shots taken in the next 25 minutes, none would reach the goalkeeper.
  • Rikard Lindqvist received a yellow card with 41 minutes left in the game.
  • The Norse made many substitutions in the closing-20 minutes to find an equalizer, but ultimately gave up another goal with three and a half minutes remaining to Daniel Iyok.

NORSE NOTES

  • NKU outshot the Titans, 17-10, but tied with shots on target at 7.
  • The Norse drew 14 fouls from Detroit Mercy, nine of which came in the second half.
  • Probert's four shots on goal puts him at 15 on the year and gives him a .455 SOG percentage.

UP NEXT

  • The Norse take a short trip down I-71 to face Louisville on Tuesday. The Cardinals are currently receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll after being ranked earlier this season. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. and stream on ACC Network Extra.
