@NKUNorseSB falls to Belmont in extra innings

NASHVILLE – Northern Kentucky softball pushed host Belmont to extra innings in the opening game of the Bruin Classic, but fell to the Bruins in a 6-5 decision. The Norse dip to 3-6 on the season while Belmont advances to 7-4.
 
 
At the Plate
  • NKU held a slight edge at the plate, clubbing nine hits compared to Belmont's eight.
  • Hailey Whitmer and Ava Lawson both went 2-for-4 to lead NKU. Lawson drove in two runs while Whitmer added one RBI.
  • Madi Mulder also drove in a run, going 1-for-4 on the day.
 
In the Circle
  • Taylor Ginther started in the circle and pitched 4.1 innings for the Norse. She struck out two batters and walked four, and drops to 3-3 on the season.
  • Emily Koperdak pitched 3.0 innings in relief, also striking out a pair of batters and walking four.
 
Scoring Summary
  • NKU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Kara Meter drew a walk before Taylor Hoover doubled to center field. The two were driven in thanks to a Lawson single up the middle.
  • Belmont answered back with three runs in the bottom of the third courtesy of an RBI single and a two-RBI double.
  • Isabell Alexander led off the fifth with a single, advancing to second on an error. Another miscue allowed her to score and tie the contest up at 3-3.
  • Belmont took the lead back in the sixth off a wild pitch, and the Norse pushed extra innings in the seventh off a Mulder single to right center that scored Toree Stalter.
  • With Kambra Crist placed on second base to start the eighth, Whitmer sent her home with a sac fly to center field. However, the Bruins used a pair of RBI singles to take the lead for good, winning 6-5.
