River Hawks claim 6-4 win over @NKUNorseSB

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Northern Kentucky softball dropped a neutral-site single game against UMass Lowell on Tuesday afternoon, falling 6-4 to the River Hawks. NKU drops to 4-13 on the season while UMass Lowell advances to 7-8.
 
 
At the Plate
  • The River Hawks posted an 11-8 advantage in hits, but also committed three errors compared to one for NKU.
  • Kailey Rossiter and Madi Mulder both had multi-hit outings. Rossiter went 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring a run and driving one in, while Mulder was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
  • Josie Frazier went 1-for-2 and scored a pair of runs, and Toree Stalter also crossed the plate for the Norse.
 
In the Circle
  • Emily Koperdak pitched the first 2.0 innings and falls to 0-7 on the season.
  • Hailey Whitmer added 2.0 innings in relief, striking out one and walking none while surrendering three hits.
  • Taylor Ginther closed the game out with 3.0 innings in the circle, walking one and allowing two hits.
 
Scoring Summary
  • UMass Lowell went up by a run in the top of the second thanks to an RBI single to left center.
  • The River Hawks took a 3-0 lead following a two-run home run.
  • NKU scored in the bottom of the third when Frazier singled off a bunt and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single from Rossiter advanced her to third and Mulder drove Frazier home off a sac fly to right field.
  • The River Hawks plated two more in the fifth inning off back-to-back home runs.
  • The Norse added three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Stalter was walked, Frazier and Zahrya McFarland reached on back-to-back errors, and Stalter was driven in off a Rossiter single through the left side. Mulder followed that up with a single up the middle, scoring Frazier, and Rossiter later scored on an error by the UMass Lowell third baseman.
  • UMass Lowell added one more run in the seventh as a Norse error allowed the River Hawks to score.

  • NKU heads to Riverside, California, for the UCR Tournament. The Norse will play Southern Utah and Idaho State between five games contested on Friday-Sunday, March 15-17.
