@NKUNorseBSB falls to Youngstown State on Friday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Youngstown State on Friday by a final score of 8-2. Despite the loss, the Norse earned a win in the series by getting two victories over YSU yesterday. NKU is now 10-28 on the year and 8-10 in the Horizon League. The Penguins move to 9-31 overall and 5-13 in league play.
  
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Proctor Mercer (L, 1-4) got the start on the mound. He pitched four innings, allowing just one run on a hit and two walks.
  • Noah Richardson came on to pitch in the fifth inning. He gave up three runs (two earned) on a hit and a walk. He also struck out a better.
  • Cameron Ross also pitched in the fifth inning, and he gave up an unearned run.
  • Joe Martin allowed two runs on two hits and a walk, while also striking out a batter.
  • Gunnar Barnard threw the final three innings. He allowed one run on four hits and a walk, and he also struck out a hitter.
 
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • YSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, Phillip Glasser hit an RBI groundout to score Zach Lopatka.
  • The Penguins added six runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 7-0.  Glasser hit a two-run single, and Trevor Wiersma walked with the bases loaded. Drew Dickerson recorded an RBI groundout, and another run scored on the play after a throwing error. Lopatka also added an RBI single in the frame.  
  • YSU got another run in the seventh inning to make the score 8-0. Dylan Swarmer's RBI single brought home Cody Dennis.
  • NKU got two runs back in the ninth inning. Hohman's RBI single scored Fisher, who walked earlier in the frame. Hohman also scored in the inning on an RBI single by Haueter.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Haueter's double was the 55th of his career, putting him in sole possession of second in the NKU record books. He needs three more to tie Evan McDole's record of 58. McDole played for the Norse from 2007-10.

  • NKU travels to Butler on Tuesday, April 23. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
