HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky softball came out on top in a 16-inning series opener against Youngstown State, defeating the Penguins in a 5-4 decision. The Norse move to 15-25 overall and 8-7 in Horizon League play, while YSU drops to 21-23 (9-5 Horizon).

At the Plate
  • NKU posted a season-high 18 hits, while Youngstown State registered 11.
  • Josie Frazier had a career day from the plate, going 5-for-7 and drawing a walk. On the base path, Frazier stole three bases and scored one run.
  • Kit Rocco went 3-for-7 and scored the game-winning run.
  • Ava Lawson, Zahrya McFarland and Taylor Hoover each chipped in two hits. Lawson had a home run and drove in four runs in the contest, while McFarland scored twice for the Norse and Hoover had the game-winning RBI.

In the Circle
  • Taylor Ginther pitched the complete 16.0 innings for the Norse, striking out five batters and walking one. Ginther allowed just one extra-base hit, and the Norse retired the Penguins in order in eight of the first 11 innings. Ginther moves to 10-11 on the season, which gives her 19 career victories to tie Ashlynn Roberts' Division I-era record for career wins.
