HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky softball fell in both games of a doubleheader to Mid-American Conference-leading Miami (Ohio). The Norse dropped a 5-1 decision in the first game before pushing extra innings against the RedHawks in the second game, ultimately falling 3-2. NKU drops to 17-30 on the year while Miami advances to 30-14.
Game 1: Miami 5, NKU 1
At the Plate
- Miami out-hit the Norse, 12-4.
- Ava Lawson and Kara Meter both went 2-for-3 from the plate. Lawson drove in NKU's lone run off her first triple of the season.
- Zahrya McFarland scored NKU's run.
In the Circle
- Hailey Whitmer got the start, falling to 3-2 with the setback. She allowed three runs on three hits in 2.0 innings of work.
- Emily Koperdak pitched the final 5.0 innings in relief, striking out one batter and allowing a pair of runs.
Scoring Summary
- The RedHawks used a two-run double and an RBI triple in the second inning to take an early lead.
- Miami added another run in the third inning thanks to an RBI groundout.
- McFarland drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fourth inning and was driven in as Lawson tripled to right center.

- Taylor Ginther pitched a complete 8.0 innings, striking out five batters and walking one. She falls to 11-13 on the season with the loss.
Scoring Summary
- Miami took an early lead as a two-run single in the third put the RedHawks up by two runs.
- NKU answered back in the bottom of the frame as a pair of Miami errors allowed the Norse to plate a pair of runs and tie the contest.
- Tied at 2-2 at the end of seven innings, the teams started extra innings with a runner on second base. Miami was able to capitalize on the advantage, plating a run off a single to take a 3-2 lead. The Norse were able to advance the runner to third, but no further as the game close out.

- NKU wraps up the regular season at home with a series against Cleveland State on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4. Friday is scheduled to be a 4 p.m. single game, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Prior to Saturday's contests, the Norse will honor the careers of seniors Zahrya McFarland and Kara Meter.
