CHICAGO – Northern Kentucky softball moved on to the third day of the 2019 Horizon League Softball Championship, taking down No. 5 Oakland, 3-2. The Norse move to 21-32 on the season while the Golden Grizzlies end their campaign at 18-33.

At the Plate
  • Oakland had a 6-5 advantage in hits.
  • Ava Lawson had a powerful day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple and a solo home run. The junior center fielder scored two runs and drove in a pair as well.
  • Josie Frazier added NKU's third run as she went 1-for-3.
  • Taylor Hoover and Kit Rocco were both 1-for-2.

In the Circle
  • Taylor Ginther pitched her third complete game of the tournament, moving to 15-15 on the season. She struck out two batters and walked a pair.

Scoring Summary
  • Frazier led off the opening inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She opened up scoring as she was driven in by Lawson's triple. Madi Mulder then drove Lawson in off a sac fly to right field.
  • The Norse kept the Golden Grizzlies scoreless until the sixth. Oakland got within a run as a runner on second was able to make her way home on a fielding error.
  • Lawson swung on the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the frame, clubbing it over the right field fence to give the Norse a two-run lead.
  • The Golden Grizzlies plated one more off a two-out RBI single up the middle but were unable to tie the contest as the game ended with the next batter as she popped up to Mulder.

Up Next
  • The Norse will have a rematch with No. 5 IUPUI in tomorrow's first game of the day after the Jaguars suffered a five-inning setback to No. 1 UIC. First pitch is set for noon CT/1 p.m. ET and the winner will advance to play the loser of UIC versus No. 2 Detroit Mercy. All games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
