CARBONDALE, Ill. – Northern Kentucky softball kicked off the Coach B Classic with a 3-1 victory over Murray State. The Norse move to 5-5 on the season while the Racers drop to 9-5.

At the Plate
  • Both teams recorded seven hits, and neither committed an error.
  • Ava Lawson had a multi-hit outing for the Norse, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and driven in thanks to a home run.
  • Jordan Jenkins and Madi Mulder also drove runs in, while Toree Stalter and Tatum Biddle crossed the plate for the Norse.

In the Circle
  • Taylor Ginther moved to 3-2 after pitching the complete game. The senior struck out two batters and walked a pair.

Scoring Summary
  • Northern Kentucky was the first to score in the contest as Biddle led off the third inning with a double. Madi Mulder advanced the rookie with a sac bunt, and Biddle was driven in on a fielder's choice.
  • Murray State scored its first run in the fifth with a two-out single down the left line. A double to center field allowed the Racers to tie it up at 1-1.
  • NKU answered back immediately as Lawson clubbed a solo homer, giving the Norse a 2-1 advantage.
  • The Racers were able to load the bases in the bottom of the sixth, but NKU closed the frame out with a double play to prevent Murray State from scoring.
  • The Norse added an insurance run in the seventh, with Stalter leading off with a single through the right side. She was driven in by a double from Mulder, and the Racers were unable to answer back.

  Norse Notes
  • Lawson's home run was her third this season and the 13th of her career. The senior cracked NKU's all-time top-10 list for career homers and is tied for ninth with Krista Eldridge (1999-2002) and Cara Parker (2006-09).
  • Frazier continues her hitting streak and has had at least one in each game this year.
  • Stalter has also reached base in every game this season, either by way of a hit or a walk.

Up Next
