@NKUNorseSB suffers 3-0 setback to Sacred Heart

DELAND, Fla. – Northern Kentucky softball dropped a 3-0 decision to Sacred Heart on Sunday morning in the final game of the Hatter Classic. The Norse move to 9-9 on the year while the Pioneers advance to 8-8.   
 
 
At the Plate
  • NKU posted the advantage in hits, 7-5.
  • Alexis McDaniel had a multi-hit showing, going 2-for-3.
  • Toree Stalter clubbed one hit and also reached base by drawing a walk.  
 
In the Circle
  • Lauryn Hicks started in the circle and fell to 0-1 on the season. The freshman tossed 4.0 innings, striking out six batters and walking one.
  • Ashlyn Zuberer pitched the final 2.0 innings in relief, allowing just one hit by the Pioneers.
 
Scoring Summary
  • Sacred Heart used a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to plate its only runs of the contest.
  • NKU was able to load the bases in the top of the fifth with singles from Jenkins, Biddle and Stalter, but all three were left stranded as the frame came to a close. The Norse also left two on base at the close of the contest.
 
 
 
Up Next
  • The Norse remain in Florida for THE Spring Games, which will be played in Longwood, Florida. NKU first takes on LIU on Thursday, March 12, before facing Niagara and Eastern Illinois on Friday, March 13. The tournament concludes on Saturday, March 14, against North Florida and Manhattan.
