Two #HLMSOC matches up next for @NKUNorseMSOC

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – A pair of Horizon League matches are up next for Northern Kentucky men's soccer, beginning with IUPUI at home on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. The Norse will then travel north to face Cleveland State on Saturday, Oct. 16, with kickoff schedule for 7 p.m. as well.

• NKU split a pair of home matches last week, first dropping a 3-1 nonconference bout against East Tennessee state. The Norse did get back on track with a 1-0 overtime victory against Detroit Mercy in a Horizon League contest. 
• NKU currently ranks 32nd in shots on goal per game (6.67), 42nd in the nation in total goals (21), 66th in total assists (18), 57th in scoring offense (1.75), 48th in total points (60), 64th in points per game (5.00), and 81st in assists per game (1.50).
• NKU remains at home to start the week as the Norse will host Horizon League adversary IUPUI on Wednesday, Oct. 13, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Northern Kentucky will then travel north to take on Cleveland State in a conference matchup on Saturday, Oct. 16 with a 7 p.m. start time as well. 
• The last time NKU and IUPUI faced each other was last season as the Norse defeated the Jaguars 2-0 on March 6, 2021.
• The last time Northern Kentucky met Cleveland State on the pitch was last season as well with the Norse picking up the 2-1 double overtime victory on Feb. 4, 2021.
• NKU's eight goals against VMI are the most scored this year by a DI team against another DI opponent. The team's 25 total points are also the highest single-match totals in the nation and nine assists are the second most.
• NKU is the reigning Horizon League regular-season champion, winning the league with a 7-1 record versus conference opposition and going 7-2 overall. The title marked the first DI-era championship for the Norse.
• The Norse were picked to finish fourth in this year's #HLMSOC Preseason Poll.
• NKU was also the Horizon League Championship runner-up.
• NKU sported one of the stingiest defenses in the country last year, ranking 13th in save percent (.837) and 23rd in goals against average (.748).
• The Norse received their first ever national ranking as a DI program 2020, checking in at No. 24 in Top Drawer Soccer's April 6 ranking. They moved up to No. 23 on April 13 in the TDS poll, but jumped into the United Soccer Coaches rankings at No. 22 that same week, setting the new DI highwater mark for ranking.
• GK Daniel Bermingham is the reigning #HLMSOC Goalkeeper of the Year.
• Bermingham ranked 16th in the country in save percentage (.837) and 33rd in goals against average (0.748) in 2020. He has 49 saves this year, which ranks 14th. He also ranks 24th in saves per game (4.45) this season.
• F Jesse Randall and F Dylan Bufton, a 2020 all-Horizon League First Team honoree, both lead the Norse in goals scored this season with seven and five, respectively. Randall ranks 19th overall and Bufton sits at 63rd in the country.
• Randall also ranks 15th in the nation in shots on goal per game (1.92) and ranks 39th in goals per game (0.58).
• Bufton currently ranks 26th in the nation in shots on goal per game (1.78) as well.
Ben Hegge scored the game-winner versus Detroit Mercy in overtime in the 100th minute. 
• Randall netted the game-winner against Purdue Fort Wayne off a free kick in the 52nd minute.
