@NKUNorseBSB swept by Lipscomb in doubleheader

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team (2-5) fell in both games of a doubleheader at Lipscomb (4-2) on Saturday at Dugan Field. The Bisons won by scores of 14-8 and 9-1 respectively, with game two ending an inning early due to inclement weather.
 
GAME 1: Lipscomb 14, Northern Kentucky 8
AT THE PLATE ON THE MOUND
  • Kyle Klingenbeck (L, 0-1) went the first 3.1 innings, allowing the first seven runs on seven hits and three walks.
  • Tyler Ollier tossed for 1.1 innings, yielding two runs, three hits and a walk.
  • Noah Richardson also had 1.1 innings of work. He gave up four runs and a pair of walks, while deliving four strikeouts.
  • TJ Graves closed out the game, throwing the final two innings. He allowed just one run and two hits.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Lipscomb had the first run of the day with a solo homer in the bottom of the first. The Bisons added another run an inning later, making it a 2-0 game to start.
  • McFadden-Ackman drilled a leadoff double to right-center in the top of the third. Moss bunted and McFadden-Ackman scored thanks to a throwing error by Lipscomb's third baseman.
  • In the same frame, Hedges singled to put runners of the corners and Odom brought Moss home with a blooper to left, tying the game up at two apiece.
  • Lipscomb retook the lead in its half of the third, adding one run. The Bisons then scored a total of six runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
  • Wakeham singled in the top half of the sixth, followed by a double by Hall to bring the runner home, making it a 9-3 game.
  • Four more Lipscomb runs were added in the bottom of the sixth.
  • It was a run-filled eighth inning for the Norse. Wakeham led things off with a double and Hall reached through an error by the opposing shortstop. A groundout by McFadden-Ackman gave the Norse their first run of the inning.
  • Moss and Gick followed, each receiving walks to load the bases. Hedges scored Hall and Moss with a double.
  • Brandt gave the Norse their final score of the game, singling to third, but a throwing error allowed Hedges and Gick to get home.
  • The Bisons had one more run in the bottom of the eighth to wrap up the game.
GAME 2: Lipscomb 9, Northern Kentucky 1
AT THE PLATE
  • Doersching was perfect at the plate, going 1-for-1 and reaching base his other two at-bats with a pair of walks.
  • Hall had only the other hit, finishing 1-for-3.
ON THE MOUND
  • Nick Noble (L, 1-1) was on the bump for the first 3.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and a pair of walks.
  • Position player Bryce Thomas made an appearance for a scoreless inning of relief.
  • Bryce Smith finished out the game with 1.1 innings thrown, giving up the final three runs.
KEY MOMENTS
  • With McFadden-Ackman on second thanks to an error and a Doersching single, the freshman had the opening score of the game after two wild pitches in the first inning.
  • The Bisons had a three-run homer in their half of the first and added a fourth score with an RBI double.
  • Hall had the only other Norse hit to lead off the second with a single up the middle.
  • Lipscomb tacked on another run in the second to lead 5-1.
  • The Bisons had another solo home run in the fourth.
  • The last three runs came through a three-run homer by the Bisons in the fifth frame.
UP NEXT
  • NKU begins conference play next weekend with a four-game set at Wright State. The first game of the series will take place on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
