Oakland takes a pair from @NKUNorseSB on Saturday

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Northern Kentucky dropped both ends of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Oakland. NKU slips to 4-12 on the year and 3-5 in Horizon League play. Oakland moves to 7-5 overall and 6-2 against league foes. Maddie Lacer went 5-for-8 at the dish on the day, with a double in each contest to lead a Norse offense that hit .406 across the two games with eight extra-base hits.
 
Game 1: Oakland 9, NKU 4
At the Plate In the Circle
  • Madisyn Eads got the start and took the loss, falling to 0-1 on the year. She allowed eight runs, but only two were earned as the Norse were charged with seven errors in the game.
  • Eads registered three strikeouts and issues a single free pass.
  • Lauryn Hicks tossed 2.1 innings of relief, surrendering one run on a hit and a walk.
Scoring Summary
  • Oakland struck in the home half of the first, plating two runs with two hits. They used a single and walk to put runners on and then scored them on a double.
  • The Norse evened the score in the next frame. McKeough singled and was replaced on the base-pads by Natalia Lozada. Lozada scored on Lacer's single, followed by an O'Hair triple to bring home Lacer.
  • Oakland regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the second.
  • NKU answered and took its first lead of the game with a two-run third. LeMonier singled and scored on Lawson's long ball.
  • A five-run fifth pushed the Golden Grizzlies ahead, 8-5, and they tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to reach the final score.

At the Plate
  • Josie Frazier had a four-hit outing, going 4-for-6 on the game.
  • LeMonier, Lacer, Megan Lenhart and O'Hair also had multi-hit efforts as the Norse out-hit the Golden Grizzlies, 17-11.
  • Madi Mulder, Lawson, McKeough, Jenkins and Haley Whitmer also registered hits in the game.
  • Northern Kentucky had five doubles in the contest, one each from Mulder, Lawson, Jenkins, Lacer and O'Hair.
In the Circle
  • Caitlin Karo got the start and went 7.2 innings. 
  • Karo surrendered three runs on 11 hits, fanning three batters.
  • Hicks took the loss, falling to 3-6. 
  • She pitched one inning, giving up a hit and a walk while striking out two Golden Grizzlies.
Scoring Summary
  • Similar to game one, Oakland tallied the first run of the game, scoring once in the opening frame.
  • O'Hair singled to bring home Lacer and tie the game in the second. Lacer reached base with a double.
  • A two-run fifth regained the lead for the Golden Grizzlies, pushing them ahead, 3-1.
  • The Norse rallied for two runs in the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Lawson doubled to open the stanza and scored on Jenkins' double. Lacer then singled to bring home Margelot.
  • NKU had three hits in the home half of the ninth, but was unable to plate a run.
  • It proved costly for the Norse, as the Golden Grizzlies used a sacrifice fly with one out to score the game winning run in the bottom half.
