HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky (5-15 Overall, 4-8 Horizon League) split a pair with Cleveland State (9-15 Overall, 4-8 Horizon League) on Friday afternoon, winning game one, 6-3, before falling, 1-0, in game two.
Kendyl McKeough went 5-for-6 at the plate on the day, clubbing a homer, two doubles and two singles. She also had two RBI.
Game 1: NKU 6, Green Bay 3
At the Plate
- McKeough had a monstrous game for the Norse, going 3-for-3 at the plate, belting a home run, double and a single. McKeough drove in a pair and scored once.
- Ava Lawson had a 2-for-3 showing, clubbing a homer and double en route to three RBI in the game. Lawson's homer gives her five on the year and 21 in her career.
- Josie Frazier, Ella LeMonier, and Sophie Margelot all had a hit apiece.
- LeMonier collected NKU's sixth RBI of the game.
In the Circle
- Lauryn Hicks picked up her eighth start on the season and went the full seven innings.
- With the win, Hicks moves to 4-7 this season.
- She also finished with nine strikeouts and two walks, while allowing six hits.
Scoring Summary
- Lawson smashed a double to centerfield in the first inning that drove home Madi Mulder, who drew a two-out walk to give Lawson a base runner.
- With two outs in the Vikings' side of the second, Courtney Fernette crushed one to centerfield that cleared the wall to tie the game at one.
- The Norse responded in their half of the inning with an RBI-double from McKeough that scored Jenna O'Hair and regained the lead for NKU, 2-1.
- Cleveland State refused to be put away. A 2-RBI single was put up the middle in the fifth, elevating the Vikings to a 3-2 lead.
- The Norse responded in their side of the fifth by way of an RBI-double to left center from LeMonier that scored Frazier and a two-run shot from Lawson.
- McKeough extended the lead for NKU with a homer of her own in the sixth, giving her three home runs on the year.
Game 2: Cleveland State 1, NKU 0
At the Plate
- McKeough continued to rake in game two, going 2-for-3 at the dish.
- LeMonier had the only other hit for NKU.
- Sophie Margelot drew a pair of walks.
In the Circle
- Caitlin Karo (1-6) picked up the start for the backend of the doubleheader, her ninth of the year.
- Karo worked 3.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits and struck out one batter in the losing effort.
- Faith Howard entered in relief and tossed 4.0 scoreless innings. She fanned five batters and allowed just three Vikings to reach base, one via hit and two by way of walks.
Scoring Summary
- The Vikings opened game two with a homer to right center late in their side of the third inning.
- The Norse threatened in the fifth. McKeough opened the frame with a double, but NKU wasn't able to bring the tying run home.
- McKeough also gave the Norse a two-out runner in the seventh. Despite a wild pitch that advanced the runner into scoring position, NKU failed to score.
