CINCINNATI – Northern Kentucky men's tennis won its first match of the weekend against UIC, 6-1. The Norse climb to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while the Flames fall 1-12 and 0-4 in conference play.
Match Notables
- In doubles play, Trevor Ball and Jorge Rodriguez (No. 2) fell to their opponents 6-3, but Santiago Casamayor and Brandon Ponomarew (No. 3) got the next win, 6-4.
- Emelien Burnel and Andrew Niehaus (No. 1) played a hard-fought battle against their opponents and won 7-5 to provide the Norse with the doubles point.
- Jorge Rodriguez (No. 4) finished off his opponent 6-3, 7-5 to earn the first win in singles play. Following him was Andrew Niehaus (No. 3) finishing 6-4, 7-6 (5), Trevor Ball (No. 6) winning 6-3, 6-1, and Emilien Burnel (No. 1) with a three-set battle but won 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.
- Santiago Casamayor (No. 5) finished off the scoring for the Norse, defeating his opponent in a same-set score of 6-4.
The Norse are set to compete against the Flames Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
