Men’s @NKUTennis opens league play with exciting win over IUPUI, 4-3

INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky men's tennis picked up its first conference win of the season with a close 4-3 victory over IUPUI. The Norse move to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play, while the Jaguars fall to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in league action. 
 
Match Notables  
  • In doubles play, IUPUI dominated NKU with Colton Morehart and Blessing Benibo (No. 3) taking down Andrew Niehaus and Santiago Casamayor 6-2, and Sean Bailey and Ethan Mardanus-Budiono (No. 2) took doubles win over Jorge Rodgriguez and Brandon Ponomarew, 6-2.
  • IUPUI quickly jumped ahead with a win by Mardanus-Budiono over Ponomarew at No. 2 singles.
  • However, the Norse were undeterred. Trevor Ball (No. 6) picked up the first Norse point with a 7-6, 6-3 win and Jorge Rodriguez (No. 4) took the second win in singles over his opponent 7-6, 6-2. 
  • Alex Jochim of IUPUI (No. 1) defeated Emilien Burnel 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, but the Norse won the next 2 matches to secure the win over the Jaguars. 
  • Santiago Casamayor (No. 5) defeated his opponent 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 and Andrew Niehaus (No. 3) clinched the exciting finish to the day 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
