UIC defeats @NKUNorseBSB, 10-7, on senior day

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (17-31, 14-25 Horizon League) fell to UIC (28-16, 27-11 Horizon League) at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex on Sunday. NKU also recognized its seven seniors: Andrew Bacon, Griffin Doersching, Kurt Lange, Bryson Lonsbury, Billy Marion, J.T. McGee and Jake Pease. The game also marks the final one coached by Todd Asalon, who retires with a 708-677-1 record.

AT THE PLATE 

ON THE MOUND 

  • Blaine Walters was the starter for the Norse, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and a walk in 4.2 innings pitched. He punched out five via strikeout.  
  • Bryce Smith relieved him for 1.2 innings, giving up three runs on as many hits and a walk.  
  • Bryson Lonsbury recorded a perfect two outs.  
  • J.T. McGee pitched for one inning, allowing one run and a couple of hits.  
  • Kaleb Meeks closed out for the Norse, putting together a scoreless inning with just two hits.  

KEY MOMENTS 

  • UIC was first on the board with a run in the opening frame, but NKU responded with six runs in its half. A Marion double and a single from Doersching brought in the initial run for the Norse to tie the game.  
  • Bacon singled through the left side to keep the inning going, followed by a walk by Moss and back-to-back hit-by-pitches from Haas and Fisher, plating two more.  
  • Two more runs came through an at-bat from Hedges thanks to a passed ball and a groundout, giving the Norse a 6-1 advantage.  
  • UIC fought back with three more runs in the second.  
  • Haas extended the Norse lead to 7-4 with a solo shot toward left in the third inning.  
  • The Flames tied the game up with three runs in the fifth and took the lead two innings late, adding two more to their tally. 
  • The Flames' final run of the day came in the eighth.
