@NKUNorseMSOC takes care of business in 3-0 win over Centre

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky scored in the first seven minutes and controlled the tempo in Saturday night's 3-0 win against Centre. The Norse move to 1-1 on the season.

Head Coach Stu Riddle
"We kept a clean sheet, which we desperately needed to do before going away this weekend. Things still have to be slightly better all over the field. We had nearly 25 shots and only scored three goals. We have to be a little bit more clinical than that, but it was a vast improvement."

Scoring

  • Craig Wellen and Ryan Godding played a little give-and-go with Wellen finishing off Godding's pass in the 7th-minute.
  • Dylan Bufton slotted an excellent ball to Sam Robinson, who finished it off in the 28th minute.
  • NKU's final tally of the night came off of Bufton's foot. Jesse Randall delivered a through ball to Bufton, earning an assist.

Between the Posts

  • Daniel Bermingham (1-1) made three saves in the clean-sheet performance.
  • Haydon Korfhage got the starting nod for the Colonels. He made three saves and allowed two goals.
  • Jacob Camacho got the second-half start and played the first 18 minutes. He made one save before giving away to Brendan Egan. Egan played the final 27 minutes and gave up one goal while making four saves

Match Summary

  • Randall took the first shot attempt of the match in the 5th minute, but it sailed high and right.
  • Wellens put NKU on the board just over a minute later with his first career goal.
  • Randall challenged with another pair of shots in the 12th and 14th minutes.
  • Centre's Michael Vogt earned a yellow card in the 16th, which was followed by a Bufton shot that forced Korfhage to make a save.
  • Centre's Sota Ippongi broke free and forced Bermingham to step out and stop his shot.
  • NKU kept on the front foot. Randall and Robinson had a pair of attempts that were thwarted by Korfhage before Robinson found the back of the net in the 28th minute.
  • The Norse were able to get three more shots off in the half, but Centre had the best chance when Bermingham was challenged in the 44th. Bermingham went low to his right for the save.
  • The second half was more of the same, as NKU took 11 shots while only allowing two.
  • Staying on the gas pedal, Centre's goal-keepers were forced to make five saves.
  • Bufton added the second insurance goal in the 66th.

Norse Notes

  • NKU finished with a 23-6 advantage in shots, including 11-3 in shots on frame.
  • Bufton ended up with three points on the night from his goal and assist.
  • With an assist against Centre, Randall now has five points on the year.
