INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky cross country standout
Kyle Mastin was announced as a member of the Horizon League All-Academic team on Thursday by the conference office.
It was the second consecutive year that the Covington, Ky. native was awarded the top honor for his performance on the course and in the classroom. He became the first Northern Kentucky student-athlete to earn the award in consecutive seasons since Alec Sandusky took home the honors in 2017 and 2018.
On the course, Mastin won the season-opening Queen City Invitational and was a Second Team All-Horizon League honoree with his 12th-place finish at the 2022 conference championships.
Away from the field of competition, Mastin already earned one diploma from NKU with a bachelor's degree in communication and media studies. He returned to Northern Kentucky for his last year of cross country eligibility and to earn his master's of business administration.
Mastin has been a multiple time selection for both the Horizon League Honor Roll and NKU's Dean's List and currently serves as the on-court emcee for Northern Kentucky basketball games.
To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests. Faculty Athletic Representatives from all 11 member institutions casted their votes for this award.
