SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Canisius defeated Northern Kentucky 3-1 Saturday in the Upstate Classic at Cyrill Stadium, ensuring a second straight loss for the Norse. NKU trailed in the first inning and played from behind throughout.
 
The Norse fell to 5-3 while Canisius improved to 2-0.
 
At the Plate

• Kendyl McKeough went 2-for-3 with a double and home run.
• Jordan Jenkins had the only other hit for NKU, a single to the short stop. She finished the game 1-for-3.

In the Circle

• Lauryn Hicks (1-2) struck out seven in 5.1 innings. She allowed five hits and three runs (two earned).

At a Glance

• The Norse were three-up, three down in the top of the first but trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the inning. Canisius's Christie McGee-Ross singled up the middle, advanced to second on an error and reached third when Destiny Falquez was hit by a pitch. McGee-Ross scampered home on a wild pitch.
• Hicks struck out two and another batter grounded out in the bottom of the second, but Canisius scored again in the third and fourth innings. Erin Hufford had a leadoff triple and crossed home plate on a fielder's choice four batters later to make it 2-0.
• Kendyl McKeough homered in the top of the fourth on a shot to left center to make it 2-1, but Canisius's Gianna Fazzolari followed suit in the bottom of the inning for the 3-1 lead. Neither team scored thereafter.
• Kendyl McKeough was stranded in the top of the seventh after doubling to right center.
