DURHAM, N.C. – Northern Kentucky's softball team scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and never relinquished control in a 5-4 victory over Army in a Friday Duke Invitational game at Duke University Softball Stadium.

The Norse (7-4) scored all five runs in the first two innings and dealt Army (1-6) a sixth straight loss.

In the Circle
  • Madisyn Eads (2-2) claimed the win after replacing Lauryn Hicks in the middle of the top of the third inning. At a Glance
  • Leadoff batter Ella Monier put NKU in a solid position with a single to short stop in the bottom of the first. She advanced to second on Jenna O'Hair's sac bunt. Kendyl McKeough's single down the left field line propelled LeMonier to third and Jordan Jenkins drove her home with a left-field single.
  • McKeough made it 2-0, Norse, after Tatum Biddle reached on a fielder's choice and garnered the RBI.
  • Army scored a run in the top of the second but had two errors in the bottom of the inning, including one by the short stop that allowed Maddie Lacer to reach base. Kendyl McKeough belted a double to right center several batters later and plated Jenna O'Hair, Ella LeMonier and Sophie Margelot.
  • Army scored twice in the top of the third but came no closer to usurping the lead, and NKU's defense stayed strong to claim the 5-4 victory.
  • Both teams had seven hits. NKU finished with zero errors to Army's two. The game was the first-ever between the two programs.
