DAYTON, Ohio – The No. 6 seeded Northern Kentucky Baseball program (19-35) was downed by No. 5 seed Youngstown State (21-35) Friday afternoon from Nischwitz Stadium. 
 
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
  • Northern Kentucky got the scoring started with a bang in the top of the third inning as Brennan Gick belted a three-run home run down the right field line to put the Norse out in front.
  • The Penguins scored a run in the bottom half of the same inning with a RBI triple to right center field.
  • NKU continued to flex their muscles at the plate in the fourth inning with a Manny Vorhees solo homer to left field to push the Norse lead out to 4-1.
  • Youngstown State began their comeback in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of RBI doubles to trail NKU 4-3. 
  • YSU tied up the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle. The Penguins then took a 6-4 lead over NKU with a two-run single through the right side.
  •  Brandon Tucker got the Norse comeback started with an RBI single up the middle to bring home Noah Fisher as YSU lead just 6-5 in the top of the fifth inning. 
  • Youngstown State broke open the scoring in the bottom of the fifth, posting five runs to increase their lead out to 11-5. 
  • The Norse looked to make their final comeback in the top of the ninth, as Gick and Michael Hall each scored on wild pitches but ultimately YSU claimed the victory at 11-7 overall. 
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brennan Gick finished the afternoon going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, two run scored and one walk. 
  • Manny Vorhees provided a spark at the plate with a solo home run, one run scored and one walk.
  • Brandon Tucker saw the only multi-hit day at the dish for the Norse, going 2-for-3 with two walks and one RBI.
