Softball drops two on final day of Coach B Classic

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Northern Kentucky softball program dropped its final two games at the 2023 Coach B Classic on Sunday. The Norse's late-inning comeback attempt fell short in an 8-3 loss to SIUE in the opener, followed by a 7-0 setback to DePaul to conclude the tournament.
 

GAME ONE - THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 3, SIUE – 8 (7 innings)
LOCATION: Charlotte West Stadium – Carbondale, Illinois
RECORDS: NKU 3-6 (0-0 HL), SIUE 3-9 (0-0 OVC) 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- Seven different NKU student-athletes recorded hits in the contest.
- Ella LeMonier (1-for-4), Sydni Barnes (1-for-3) and Maddie Lacer (1-for-2, BB) all posted a RBI for NKU.
- Olivia Pastin (1-for-4), Tatum Biddle (1-for-3), Charly Koehler (1-for-3) and Megan Kincer (1-for-1) also picked up hits in the game.
- Hannah Colbert, Jena Rhoads and Pastin crossed the plate for the Norse.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
- SIUE jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
- The Cougars added a run in the top of the third, another in the fifth and four more in the sixth to push their advantage to 8-0.
- NKU started to battle back with a run in the bottom of the sixth and two in the seventh, but it was too late as SIUE closed out the non-conference victory.

FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 0, DePaul – 7 (7 innings)
LOCATION: Charlotte West Stadium – Carbondale, Illinois
RECORDS: NKU 3-7 (0-0 HL), DePaul 6-7 (0-0 Big East) 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- Sydni Barnes went 2-for-3 at the dish.
- Ella LeMonier (1-for-3) all picked up a hit for the Norse.
- Alicia Flores threw three scoreless innings of relief. She allowed just three hits and had four punchouts.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
- It was all DePaul in this one as the Blue Demons dropped four runs in the top of the third and another three in the top of the fifth to collect the 7-0 victory.
 
 
NEXT UP 
The Norse will take a short break before returning with the Cardinal Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville, March 3-5 at Ulmer Stadium.
