Baseball's Historic Season Ends at Horizon League Tournament

DAYTON, Ohio – The No. 3 seeded Northern Kentucky baseball program saw their season come to an end Thursday after falling twice in the Horizon League Tournament to No. 2 seed Oakland and then to No. 5 seed Milwaukee in extra innings. 
 

THE FACTS (GAME ONE)
FINAL SCORE: No. 3 Northern Kentucky – 6, No. 2 Oakland – 3
LOCATION: Nischwitz Stadium – Dayton, Ohio
RECORDS: Northern Kentucky Norse, 30-26 (17-13 Horizon) – OAK Golden Grizzlies, 28-29 (18-12 Horizon)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bottom 6th: Oakland extends their lead out to 10-0 over the Norse with a three-run inning
  • Top 7th: Norse tally four runs as Moss, Odom and Schneider provide RBI hits to get NKU on the board at 10-4
  • Bottom 7th: Golden Grizzlies add three more runs to cap off their scoring at 13 overall
  • Top 8th: NKU add four additional runs as Kucera, Odom and Schneider all provide RBI doubles but the comeback falls short at 13-8

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Top 3rd: The Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three innings against the Norse
  • Bottom 3rd: NKU struck back with RBI singles from McFadden-Ackman, Vorhees and Odom to cut the MKE lead in half at 6-3
  • Top 4th: Milwaukee added two more runs with a single to left center field, extending the lead to 8-3
  • Bottom 4th: Fisher belts a two-run home run to right field to close the MKE gap to just three runs
  • Bottom 8th: McFadden-Ackman singles to right field to bring home Cleary Simpson. Vorhees smashes a triple to right center field to drive in two runs, tying the game at 8-8
  • Top 10th: MKE adds two runs in extra innings to eliminate NKU and advance in the Horizon League Tournament

NORSE NOTES
  • Fisher concludes his phenomenal season totaling 19 home runs and 68 RBI. Noah's stellar year saw him break the NKU single-season record in walks with 53 total. Fisher also ranks second in Northern Kentucky history in single-season runs scored (66) and in home runs (19), along with ranking fourth in RBI (68).
  • McFadden-Ackman also ends his historic season ranking third all-time in Northern Kentucky single-season standing with 69 runs batted in. 
  • The Norse finish this historic season totaling 30 wins on the season now, which is a NKU Baseball program record for most victories in the NCAA Division I era dating back to 2017 (25-33).
