LOUISVILLE – The Northern Kentucky men's soccer program made their first road trip of the 2023 season down to longtime in-state non-conference rival Bellarmine University Monday evening for a match inside the Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Nic Lemen posted his third consecutive shutout to open the 2023 campaign. Lemen went on to record four saves against the Knights as well, a season-high for the Norse goalkeeper.

Roberto Burlew and
Douglas Fajardo led NKU offensively with a pair of shots on the night. Burlew recorded a shot on goal for the Norse as well.

Sam Robinson,
Yonatan Cohen and
Parker Vasic each provided a shot on goal for the NKU offensive attack against the Knights also.
- NKU controlled most of this matchup against Bellarmine as the Norse out-shot the Knights 14 to 8. Northern Kentucky was the more physical team as well totaling 16 fouls to just 10 for Bellarmine.
MATCH NOTABLES
- The Norse potentially netted the game-winner in this non-conference bout in the 70' minute but after initial review by the referee committee, the ruling was a Northern Kentucky offsides call and the goal was overturned.

"Tonight's match went pretty close to what we expected, we knew it would be a highly contested match and it played out that way. Our guys competed hard and fought to get our first shutout of the season. We need to be more decisive in the attacking half, improve our execution and keep pushing hard and good things will come from our hard work."

Northern Kentucky men's soccer is back at it next on Saturday, September 9 as the Norse will return home to Highland Heights, Kentucky to open Horizon League play with Robert Morris University.
