Men's Soccer knocks off Cleveland State behind Purks' big night

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky men's soccer moved its unbeaten streak to seven matches on Saturday night, as the Norse took the lead in the 42nd second of the match and never trailed in a 2-1 lead over Cleveland State. 

The Norse now sit in fifth in the Horizon League, and are the lone unbeaten team in the league.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Northern Kentucky held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. 
  • Nic Lemen posted four saves in the win. 
  • Both Yonatan Cohen and Jason Purks' goals were their first of the season. Purks  and Ali Taleb were credited with assists on Cohen's opening goal. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • NKU never trailed in the match after wasting no time scoring the opening goal. Yonatan Cohen found the back of the net for the first time this season in the first minute of the game. 
  • Jason Purks gave the Norse some insurance in the 29th minute with an unassisted goal from long range. 
  • Cleveland State found the back of the net in the 69th minute, but Northern Kentucky was able to hold on and run out the clock for its first Horizon League victory of the season.
