Northern Kentucky Athletics records highest GSR in department history

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky University's student-athletes continue to be champions in the classroom, community and in the field of competition, as NKU set a new program record for both Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Federal Graduation Rate (FGR), made official as the NCAA released its yearly report this week.

Northern Kentucky registered a 92% GSR, tied for third highest of any DI school in the state, marking an improvement of four points from last year's then-program record 88%. In FGR, the Norse combined to post a 72%, the highest of any school in the state by seven points.

Every sport program was at or above the national average in either GSR, FGR, or both, and all programs scored above an 80% GSR.

"I'm extremely proud of the work our students have done in the classroom to reach their goals of graduation.  They continue to raise the bar in the classroom and on the field," said Sarah Pruess, NKU's Senior Associate Athletics Director and SWA.

Men's golf, women's golf, and women's tennis all scored a perfect 100% in both GSR and FGR. Both men's and women's XC/T&F, alongside the aforementioned three programs, were above national average in both GSR and FGR.

Women's basketball posted a perfect 100 GSR, while men's basketball finished four points above the national average with an 89.

In total, eight programs, four men's and four women's, finished above the national average in GSR.

Figures released reflect graduation numbers among student-athletes who entered college in 2017. The NCAA has tracked GSR for more than two decades and releases its findings in a yearly, public report.
