Another one for the record book: Softball defeats Michigan for second Power Five win in school history

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky softball program had another record-setting performance as the Norse knocked off Michigan, 3-2 in a non-conference battle at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field on Sunday evening.
 
With the victory, the Norse collected their second Power Five win in school history. It is the second straight year that NKU has accomplished the feat as the Norse also defeated Michigan State last season.

FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 3, Michigan – 2 (7 innings)
LOCATION: Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field – Highland Heights, Kentucky
RECORDS: NKU 6-8 (0-0 HL), MICH 12-10 (0-0 Big Ten)
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Olivia Pastin led the offensive charge for the Norse as she finished with a 1-for-3 day at the plate with one home run, two RBI and a run scored.
- Jena Rhoads also had a strong game with a 1-for-2 performance that included a run scored.
- Sydni Barnes was responsible for NKU's other RBI and run scored.
- Ella LeMonier chipped in a 1-for-2 day to go with a stolen base.
- Brielle DiMemmo (1-for-2) also added a hit for the Norse.
- Lauryn Hicks picked up the win in the circle as she went five strong innings with just five hits and two runs allowed (one earned). She also struck out four Michigan batters.
- Madisyn Eads recorded the save as she closed things out with two scoreless innings. She allowed just one hit.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- NKU broke through with the first run of the game as Rhoads came around to score in the bottom of the third to give Northern Kentucky a 1-0 advantage.
- The Norse weren't done there as Pastin quickly followed her up with a two-run blast that plated herself and Barnes as NKU jumped out to a 3-0 lead. - Michigan attempted to make a comeback with two runs in the top of the fifth to cut Northern Kentucky's advantage to 3-2.
- The Norse slammed the door as Eads posted back-to-back scoreless innings to seal the 3-2 victory for NKU.  
HISTORY MADE NEXT UP
The Norse concluded their time at the NKU Spring Classic with a showdown against Illinois State set for Monday, March 11 at 3:30 PM ET at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.
