YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – For the second consecutive game, the Northern Kentucky softball program took a team to the final inning, but once again the Norse found themselves on the wrong side of a walk off in another thriller, this time against Horizon League foe Youngstown State by a 2-1 margin on Friday.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Trinity Robertson led the offense for the Norse as she finished with a 2-for-3 day at the plate that included a home run, one RBI and a run scored.

Jena Rhoads also had a multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 effort.

Sydni Barnes chipped in a 1-for-2 outing to round out the attack for the Norse.

Lauryn Hicks took a tough-luck loss in the circle as she went 6.2 innings with eight strikeouts. She allowed just three hits and two earned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two sides opened the game with three scoreless frames.
- Youngstown State got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the fourth to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
- Northern Kentucky tied the game in the top of the sixth as Robertson blasted a ball over the centerfield wall to tie things at 1-1.
- The Norse almost got out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh, but Youngstown State was able to slap a base hit with two outs to collect the walk off win.
NEXT UP
The Norse and Penguins run it right back with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20. First pitch is set for 1 PM ET and the two contests will be played in front of a national audience on ESPN+.
