HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky softball program returned to the win column with a 3-0 shutout of in-state foe Bellarmine at Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Olivia Pastin (2-for-3),
Ella LeMonier (1-for-3) and
Maddie Lacer (1-for-2) teamed up to lead the NKU attack. All three student-athletes finished with a RBI in the win.

Sydni Barnes chipped in NKU's other hit in the game off a 1-for-3 effort.

Jena Rhoads,
Charly Koehler and
Brielle DiMemmo all came around to score.
- Rhoads also added a stolen base.
- The trio of
Lauryn Hicks,
Madisyn Eads and
Brooklyn Ballis combined for the shutout of the Knights.
- Hicks picked up the win, her eighth of the season, off five innings of work. She racked up six strikeouts and allowed just three hits.
- Eads notched a scoreless frame to go with two punchouts.
- Ballis recorded the save, the first of her collegiate career, with another shutout frame for the Norse.
- With the win, Northern Kentucky improved to 8-2 against Bellarmine all-time in NKU's NCAA Division I era.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- NKU got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the third to jump out to a 2-0 lead. A Pastin RBI double was followed by a RBI from Lacer to give the Norse an early advantage.
- Northern Kentucky added to its lead with another RBI off a sacrifice fly by LeMonier that plated DiMemmo in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 3-0 contest.
- That is all the Norse would need as NKU closed out the 3-0 victory.
NEXT UP
The Norse remain in Highland Heights for the final home series of the season as NKU plays host to Detroit Mercy. The three-game slate will get underway on Friday, April 26 at Frank Ignatius Grein Field. Admission to the contest is free of charge.
