INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Kentucky softball program gave it their all, but in the end the Norse just ran out of time as NKU suffered a 6-4 setback to IUPUI in a Horizon League battle at the IUPUI Softball Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

The loss snapped a six-game conference winning streak for Northern Kentucky and a three-game winning stretch overall.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Seven different Norse student-athletes recorded a hit in the conference clash.
- Olivia Pastin led the way on offense once again with a 1-for-4 outing that included two RBI.
- Emma Ginn also drove in a run off a perfect 1-for-1 day at the dish.
- Jena Rhoads chipped in a big contest with a 1-for-2 showing that featured two runs scored and one steal.
- Ella LeMonier (1-for-3, stolen base), Maddie Lacer (1-for-3, one walk), Megan Kincer (1-for-1) and Megan Lenhart (1-for-3) all added a base knock for the Norse, respectively.
- Sydni Barnes and Brielle DiMemmo both came around to score as well for NKU.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- IUPUI got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
- NKU tied things up in the top of the third as NKU pulled off the double steal of second and home to make it a 1-1 game.
- The Jaguars answered right back with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to retake the 3-1 advantage.
- IUPUI added another run of insurance in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to extend its edge to 6-1.
- It's a good thing the Jaguars got the insurance runs as the Norse roared back in the top of the seventh. NKU was able to get three runs across the plate, but IUPUI was eventually able to slam the door to escape with the conference victory.
 
NEXT UP
The Norse and Jaguars will resume game two of the series on Wednesday, April 10 at 11 AM ET. NKU will hold a 2-0 lead with no outs in the top of the second inning. The third and final contest of the series will immediately follow once the postponed game wraps up.
