Bats heat up as Baseball drops 20 to secure sweep of PFW

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky baseball has now won six straight games, as the Norse bludgeoned PFW pitching on the way to a sweep-securing victory. 

The Norse posted a season-high 20 runs on 17 hits, hitting a pair of grand slams in the run rule victory.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - PITCHING

  • Aaron Boster took the ball and got the victory for the Norse after throwing 3.2 innings and allowing only a pair of runs on four hits. Boster had a pair of strikeouts. 
  • Shawn Parnell threw 2.1 innings of perfect baseball in relief, striking out one without allowing a baserunner. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - BATTING

  • In the batter's box, Braydon Rogers led the way with a 3-4, 6 RBI day. Rogers finished a double shy of the cycle, hitting a grand slam in the 6th. 
  • Nolan Sparks also hit a grand slam, finishing 1-4 with his first home run in an NKU uniform. 
  • The top three hitters in the lineup, Tyler Shaneyfelt, Logen Devenport, and Gabe Miranda, all finished with three hits. Miranda had three RBI, while Devenport and Shaneyfelt each had one. 
  • Josh Williams finished 1-2 with a home run and a pair of RBI. 
  • Sam Bond came off the bench with an RBI double in the sixth. 
  • Jake Paulick finished 2-4 with a pair of RBI. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • NKU plated seven runs in the opening frame, capped by a grand slam from Nolan Sparks
  • NKU took a 10-run lead with a run in the second and pair of runs in the third. 
  • Josh Williams homered in the fourth to push the lead to 11. 
  • After PFW scored five runs, Braydon Rogers drove in a pair with a fifth inning single. 
  • Rogers hit a grand slam as part of a seven spot in the sixth, which gave NKU a 20-5 run rule win.
