Midweek Madness hits Bloomington as Baseball upsets Indiana Tuesday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Northern Kentucky baseball played the role of giant slayer to perfection on Tuesday afternoon, as the Norse hit the road and toppled the Big 10's Indiana Hoosiers. 

The victory marked another Power Five victory for the Norse, who won a series at Mizzou last season.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - PITCHING

  • Bobby Bartlett got the start for NKU, picking up the win after throwing three innings and allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits. 
  • Gerald Hanson was a highlight for the Norse, throwing two innings of scoreless baseball. 
  • Aaron Massie picked up the save, his second of the year, with a scoreless ninth. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - HITTING

  • In the batter's box, Josh Williams brought the power with a pair of home runs as part of a 3-5, five RBI day. Williams hit a two-run homer and a three-run homer in the win. 
  • Brennan Rowe finished a homer shy of the cycle, finishing 4-6 with two RBI. 
  • Reigning Horizon League Batter of the Week Logen Devenport finished 1-4 with an RBI. 
  • Gabe Miranda was 2-4 with a triple and two RBI. 
  • Tyler Shaneyfelt reached base four times (2-4, 2 BB, SB). 
  • Jake Paulick had a pair of doubles and two RBI. 
  • Marcus Harrison finished 2-3 with a walk drawn. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • NKU wasted no time at the plate early, scoring three runs in the opening inning and a fourth run in the second. 
  • Josh Williams' first homer capped a five run fourth inning, which began with a two-run double from Jake Paulick. 
  • Indiana posted a six spot in the home fifth, but the Norse recaptured the momentum with five runs in the seventh. Josh Williams' homer once again capped a five spot. 
  • From there, Indiana brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth, but Cassie stranded two runners in scoring position as the Norse held on for the win.
