Norse Softball drops first two games at Miami Tournament

OXFORD, Ohio – Northern Kentucky University Norse Softball fell against Michigan State and Miami (OH) in its first of two days at the Miami Tournament, hosted by the RedHawks. All four Norse runs on the day came in the fifth inning of their second game, but suffered a late offensive surge by the opponents to fall to 7-10 on the season.

THE BASICS (GAME ONE)
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 0, Michigan State– 6
LOCATION: Miami Softball Field - Oxford, Ohio
RECORDS: NKU 7-9 (0-0 HL), MSU 5-9 (0-0 B10)

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Olivia Pastin continued her hot start to the 2025 season as she went 1-3 at the plate with a double.
- Three other Norse recorded a hit as Stella Wulker, Trinity Robertson, and Brielle DiMemmo all went 1-3.
- Brooklyn Ballis pitched six innings, allowing ten hits, and six runs, striking out three batters. She moved to 4-4 on the year with the loss.

NORSE NOTES
- NKU had a good chance to get on the board in the first, as Pastin and Wulker hit back-to-back two-out singles. A strikeout to end the inning turned things over to the Spartans, who also got a runner in scoring position that was not brought home.
- Michigan State took a three-nothing lead in the second, scoring on three singles, a walk, a hit by pitch, and a fielder's choice.
- Ballis's best outing came in the bottom of the fourth, getting a one-two-three inning to keep the Spartan lead at three.
- Michigan State scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth, hurting NKU's chances of a comeback. NKU got two runners on to start the seventh, but three straight outs clinched a Spartan shutout victory.

Robertson followed her and hit a double to left-center that tied the game, but the four-four scoreline didn't hold for long.
