Norse Softball Takes Down Dayton in Walk-Off Winner

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse Softball faced off with Dayton in a midweek clash on Tuesday afternoon, coming off the Norse's fourth Horizon League series win this past weekend. The Norse and Flyers battled in a low-scoring affair that only saw three total scoring plays, but NKU came out on top as Marley Gearld's infield single walked things off for the Norse.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 3, Dayton – 2
LOCATION: Frank Ignatius Grein Field - Highland Heights, Ky.
RECORDS: NKU 21-21 (11-6 HL), UD 22-16 (12-5 A10)

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Norse offense recorded five hits and four walks.
- Stella Wulker went 2-3 with two runs scored and a double.
- Trinity Robertson batted 1-2 with a double and two RBI.
- Marley Gearld finished 1-2 with the game-winning RBI.
- In the circle, NKU used all three pitchers, with Alicia Flores getting the start. Flores pitched four innings, allowing three hits, two runs, two walks, and striking out one batter. Kyndall Ford relieved her in the fifth, pitching two scoreless innings, allowing three hits. Brooklyn Ballis came in for Ford in the seventh, picking up her eighth win of the season with a scoreless seventh inning.

NORSE NOTES
- After two straight one-two-three innings on both sides, Dayton took a 2-0 lead in the third off a one-out, two-RBI single with the bases loaded.
- Trinity Robertson tied things up for NKU in the fourth, belting a two-out, two-run double deep to right field.
- A chaotic fifth inning saw the Flyers get in a great position to score, but they couldn't take the lead back as Ford shut things down. The freshman pitcher beat a runner at home with a scoop back to Norse catcher Emma Ginn, then later coaxed a groundout with two outs and the bases loaded to end the inning.
- Still tied up in the seventh, Brooklyn Ballis entered and got a pair of outs after allowing a pair of one-out singles, ending the inning with an emphatic strikeout.
- Stella Wulker came up huge in the seventh, leading off the inning with a double deep to left. A perfect sacrifice bunt from Trinity Robertson moved Wulker to third, scaring off the Flyers into pitching around the next pair of Norse batters, who both drew walks to load the bases. An infield single from Marley Gearld bounced off the pitcher's glove, clearing the Norse dugout and securing the Norse's second midweek walkoff winner at home in 2025.
