Pastin hits walk-off grand slam as Norse take down Youngstown State

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse Softball kicked off their final series of the regular season on Friday, taking on Youngstown State in what turned out to be a wild doubleheader. Northern Kentucky took a wild game one after an hour and 45 minute long lightning delay suspended things in the top of the sixth. Tied in the bottom of the seventh, NKU senior right fielder Olivia Pastin belted a walk-off grand slam to secure a Norse win in dramatic fashion.

LOCATION: Frank Ignatius Grein Field - Highland Heights, Ky. 
RECORDS: NKU 22-24 (12-9 HL), YSU 13-39 (5-17 HL)
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- The Norse combined for eight total hits and three walks. 
- Olivia Pastin went 3-4 with a home run, double, and a career-high five RBI. 
- Stella Wulker continued her incredible stretch as she went 2-3 with a pair of singles, one run, and one RBI.
- Jena Rhoads finished 2-4 with two runs scored. 
- In the circle, NKU's Brooklyn Ballis threw six innings of three-run ball with a trio of punchouts. Alicia Flores came in in the seventh and secured the win, her eighth of the season. 

NORSE NOTES
- Northern Kentucky took the lead in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on a squeeze play as Stella Wulker came home from third on a bunt from Brielle DiMemmo
- The Penguins tied things up in the third inning, scoring one on a sacrifice fly. Olivia Pastin broke the one-all tie in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single, and Stella Wulker reached on an infield single that increased the Norse lead to two. 
- Youngstown State battled back in the fourth to tie things up at three, thanks to a pair of singles and a triple in the frame.  
- A lightning delay halted play at the top of the sixth, lasting for about one hour and 45 minutes. 
- Still tied at three heading to the seventh, Brow, Beatty, and Rhoads were able to load the bases with no outs for Olivia Pastin. The senior belted one over the fence into right-center field to secure another walk-off winner for the Norse. 

NEXT UP
Game two of Friday's doubleheader was suspended after six innings of play with Youngstown State leading 5-1. With inclement weather on Saturday, the end of game two as well as game three will both be played on Sunday, with a time TBA.
