History Made! Norse Men’s Volleyball Captures First Win with Sweep of Thomas More

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Coming off an opening weekend where NKU took a pair of 3-1 losses to Saint Francis, Northern Kentucky University Norse men's volleyball eyed their first-ever win in program history against nearby Thomas More. The Norse dismantled the Saints in three sets, making history in Regents Hall as they earned their first-ever win in the program's young history.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
– The Saints gave NKU a bit of a scare in the first set, holding a tie 10-10 early on. The Norse built a few small runs together after that, though, and took the set 25-21. NKU cruised through the second set after a slow start, as a 9-1 run helped NKU build a big lead and win the set by nine points. Northern Kentucky put set three out of hand with a 6-0 run to make it 11-5, and never trailed after that to take it 25-20. 
– Northern Kentucky posted an attacking line of 45-10-82 to TMU's 26-13-67. The Norse's best set was by far the second, as they hit .545 while holding the Saints to a .056 hitting mark. 
– The Norse won in every major statistical category, including 6-1 in aces and 55-29 in points. NKU played a balanced lineup that saw 15 players check in the game for at least one set. Seven players finished with at least four kills in the match. 
Drew Palmer led the Norse in kills with seven, also recording a pair of aces, a pair of blocks, and three digs. 
Adam Blair had six kills on seven attacks, while Ryan Peterson had six kills on nine attacks. 
Nick Whitley and Kyle Saurer shared setter duties, with the former recording 18 assists and four digs while the latter had 16 assists and two digs. 

NEXT UP
The Norse travel to Lincoln Memorial next weekend for a pair of matches, taking on LMU on Friday before facing Belmont Abbey on Saturday. Both squads received votes in the latest AVCA Top 20 poll.
