NEW ORLEANS — Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball continued play in the Maestri Classic on Saturday, taking on the hosts, New Orleans. The Norse were in a close game until the Privateers blew the game wide open with a six-run seventh, leaving the Norse to look to tomorrow to notch a winning weekend.

GAME SUMMARY
– New Orleans opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second, before
Pierce Bauerle tied it back up in the third with an RBI single of his own. The Privateers scored three-straight runs, before NKU scored a pair in the sixth on a pair of RBI singles from
Ethan Thomas and
Zach Pomatto. New Orleans buried the Norse in the seventh with a six-run frame, capping it with a three-run homer.

EJ Miramontes started on the mound, going 4.0 innings while allowing five hits and two runs while striking out four.

Shawn Parnell relieved him to pitch the fifth, and allowed a pair of hits and one earned run in one inning of work.
Carson French then came in for Parnell in the sixth and got out of a bases-loaded jam with a scoreless frame.
Kyle Cortner and
Gabe Stout combined to allow six runs while getting just one out, and
Gannon Wentz closed out the game with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
– NKU's offense tallied just four hits, as Bauerle led the Norse bats with a hit, a run, an RBI, and a walk.
Ethan Thomas went 1-3 with an RBI, and
Jackson Wang went 1-3 with a run scored.
