Norse clinch series victory over Eastern Illinois with seven unanswered runs to close game two

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball continued play in its first home series of the 2026 season, taking on Eastern Illinois. After winning Friday's game on an extra-innings walk-off home run, the Norse found themselves down six runs in the sixth inning on Saturday. NKU rallied back to score seven unanswered runs, closing out the game in dramatic fashion and earning a series win.

GAME SUMMARY
– EIU took a lead in the fourth inning on a one-run double, before the Norse tied it right back up in the bottom half of the frame, as Marcus Harrison scored on a Zach Pomatto single. EIU then scored six-straight runs, taking a massive 7-1 lead in the sixth. Northern Kentucky got a pair back in the sixth, as Alex Brazer drove home a pair on a two-run double down the left field line. In the seventh, the Norse scored three after loading the bases, capped by Marcus Harrison's RBI single. With runners on second and third and two gone in the eighth, Pierce Bauerle hit a sharp liner to short, and just beat out the throw at first, while Nolan Sparks hustled home from second to give the Norse the lead. Gannon Wentz and Jared Teke combined to pitch a scoreless ninth as Northern Kentucky sealed the win. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
EJ Miramontes got the start on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while allowing one run and five baserunners. 
Shawn Parnell, Tannis Lange, and MJ Castaneda each allowed two earned runs while on the mound. Ryan Gill came in and threw a scoreless eighth in his first appearance of the season, earning him the victory. Gannon Wentz (0.1 IP) and Jared Teke (0.2 IP) finished off the game with a scoreless ninth frame.
