Norse Softball splits in Saturday doubleheader to wrap up Stinger classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Northern Kentucky University Norse softball wrapped up play in the 2026 Stinger Classic on Saturday, taking on a pair of OVC squads in Lindenwood and Southern Indiana. The Norse dropped the first contest to the Lions, but avenged themselves in game two with an 8-2 victory over USI. 

THE BASICS - GAME ONE
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 1, Lindenwood – 7
LOCATION: Barbara Williams Softball Complex – Montgomery, Ala.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- Alicia Flores started in the circle for the Norse and allowed all seven Lion runs in just 1.1 innings of work. A five-run second saw the senior take an early exit after giving up a grand slam. 
- NKU got one run back in the third, as Mack Brow knocked in one on a single, but no other scoring happened in the remainder of the contest. 
- Kyndall Ford and Makaree Chapman did well to end the game, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings between the two of them. Ford totaled three strikeouts in three innings. 
- NKU totaled five hits in 28 at-bats, with Mack Brow leading the way going 2-4 from the plate. Chapman finished 1-3 with a double and scored the lone run for the Norse.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- NKU opened the scoring in the fourth inning, as an error brought home Brielle DiMemmo and Jena Rhoads. An RBI single from Brooke Keltner gave the Norse a three-run lead after the fourth. NKU doubled its lead in the fifth, as Rhoads scored on a wild pitch while Makaree Chapman knocked in a pair with a double. NKU gave up two runs in the fifth, before adding insurance runs in the sixth and seventh to seal a eight-two victory. 
- Chapman led NKU at the plate, going 2-4 with four RBI and one run scored. She also notched her first career save, pitching three scoreless innings while allowing a hit and three walks. 
- Rhoads recorded two hits, including a double, crossing home plate twice. 
- Brielle DiMemmo went 2-4 with a pair of runs scored. 
- Kenzie Gulley went 2-4 with a walk and scored a run. 
- Abigail Byrd threw four innings of two-run ball, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out a pair, moving to 2-0 on the season.

NEXT UP
NKU heads to Chapel Hill next week for the Carolina Classic, as they're set to take on Monmouth, Bryant, and the hosts, North Carolina on Valentine's Day weekend.
