Baseball suffers late collapse to USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball took on USC Upstate in its penultimate regular-season contest on Friday night. Northern Kentucky got out of the gates red-hot with a three-homer, five-run first inning. NKU added two more runs on solo shots, taking a 7-0 lead halfway through the fifth inning, before a massive collapse saw the Norse allow eight unanswered to lose 8-7.

GAME SUMMARY
– Homers from Pierce Bauerle, Ethan Thomas, and Landon Springmeyer in the first saw the Norse jump out to a 5-0 lead, while solid pitching from starter Kyle Cortner kept that advantage early on. NKU added runs on solo homers from Alex Brazer in the fourth and Jake Paulick in the fifth to make it 7-0 Norse. Northern Kentucky would allow five runs in the fifth as the Spartans quickly got back in the game. The momentum never swung back in the way of the Norse, as Upstate scored one in the sixth and two in the eighth to take a late lead.
