Biography

Destiny Owen is in her second season with the Norse after signing her National Letter of Intent through Team IMPACT on Oct. 23, 2018.

Team IMPACT is a Boston-headquartered national nonprofit whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of team.

A native of Florence, Kentucky, Owen is already an accomplished athlete, as she has earned upwards of 20 gold medals in Special Olympics, competing in the 100m dash, 4x100m relay and softball throw. Due to her speed with her sprinting and a strong arm thanks to her experience in softball throw, it was suggested that she take her talents to the softball field and a partnership between Owen and the NKU softball program was formed. Owen also has strong ties to Northern Kentucky, as her parents, Serena and Larry, are both NKU alumni and her older brother is currently pursuing his graduate degree.

"I reached out to Team IMPACT when I first got here, so we're all happy to be paired up with Destiny this year," explained head coach Kathryn Gleason. "With Destiny just being around the team, it helps us realize that what we do is just a small part of being in the community. I'm hoping that we can look to her for her courage, resiliency and fight in what she battles every day. And we in turn want to give back to her, not only through softball but through being a part of a family and a team."

Team IMPACT has more than 1,000 teams waiting to be matched with children, ages 5-16, who have been diagnosed with a serious or chronic illness and who could benefit from becoming a member of the team. If you know a child who may be interested, visit www.goteamimpact.org for more information.
