Sean Teepen was named the head men's soccer coach at Northern Kentucky University on December 11, 2025.
A Cincinnati native, Teepen most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville and also worked as the program's recruiting coordinator. During his time with the Cardinals, he contributed to two NCAA Tournament appearances and his 2025 recruiting class was ranked in the top 25 nationally. His defensive unit produced seven All-ACC selections and two All-Region honorees, and the program saw three players drafted and another seven sign professional contracts during his tenure.
Prior to Louisville, Teepen spent four seasons on staff at Bowling Green State University. After serving as an assistant coach for the Falcons during the 2018 and 2019 seasons, he was promoted to associate head coach in December 2019. Teepen served as the recruiting coordinator during this time, and helped lead the Falcons to the MAC Championship in spring 2021, their first since 1996. The Falcons then made the NCAA Tournament again the following fall, as an at-large bid where they earned a first-round win over Louisville.Â
Before his time at BGSU, Teepen spent one season each at Oregon State and Coastal Carolina, helping CCU capture the Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2016.
Teepen also served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Charleston (W.Va.), from 2013-15. Charleston won five conference titles during his three seasons on staff, including a national runner-up finish in 2014.
Teepen entered the coaching ranks following an accomplished collegiate and professional playing career. From 2009-12, he played at the University of Charleston, where he was a four-time NSCAA All-Region and three-time WVIAC All-Conference selection, and was inducted into the university's Hall of Fame in 2025.
A four-year starter in goal, Teepen led the Golden Eagles to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2009 and the Sweet 16 in 2010.
Following his graduation from Charleston in 2013, Teepen signed a professional contract with the Dayton Dutch Lions of the USL Pro Division. His playing career also included stints with the Michigan Bucks, West Virginia Chaos and Myrtle Beach Mutiny in the USL Premier Development League.
Teepen earned a bachelor's degree in interior design and a master's degree in strategic leadership from the University of Charleston.
